The Gods of Sport must be finally looking beyond Cricket.
The Indian women’s kabaddi team beat Iran 25-19 to win the first Women’s Kabaddi World Cup. The stage was set at the Patlipura sports complex at Kankerbagh in Patna, after India beat Japan and Iran defeated Thailand earlier in the tournament to enter the finals.
Both teams, India and Iran, came into the finals undefeated in the tournament.
Needless to add, as is the case at any large sporting event in the country, there was a chaotic scene outside the stadium prior to the game’s start, with attendees with “official” tickets being declined entry. It must be a good day when people are fighting to get inside a stadium in India to watch something other than cricket — and even more so when it’s a Women’s field sport, right?
